Alyssa DeCenzo
Progressive/General Division Jazz Teacher
Alyssa grew up in New Abany, OH, training in the pre-professional program here at NABC. She was accepted into The Ohio State University’s Department of Dance, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2012. During her time there, she trained with and performed contemporary works by Susan Hadley, Melanie Bales, d. Sabela Grimes, and Meghan Durham Wall. She also had the opportunity to study in Costa Rica at the Taller Nacional de Danza – Conservatorio El Barco with Jimmy Ortiz.
After graduating, Alyssa taught dance classes while continuing to pursue her passion for education at Otterbein University, where she obtained her teaching license in elementary education for grades PreK-5. Alyssa spent six years as a 4th-grade teacher at Chapelfield Elementary in Gahanna before stepping away to raise her two daughters. She continues to enjoy working with elementary students as a private tutor.
Alyssa is thrilled to return to the NABC faculty this season and is excited to share all that she has learned as both a dancer and educator with her students.
